For a number of years, we have participated in the Knit for Kids program.  This started out as a mission through Guidepost, but a few years ago they turned it over to World Vision.  This mission accepts knitted or crocheted hats, sweaters, and baby blankets.  We have sent numerous sweaters, baby hats, and baby blankets to both Guidepost and now World Vision.  We invite you to participate in this through crocheted or knitted items.  We will ship them for you.  I have patterns available and you can also find them on www.knitforkids.org.  They currently are asking for hats, gloves/mittens, and for school-aged children blankets (knit, crocheted or fleece, size 36″ by 42 “).  Of course, they will continue to accept and ship handmade sweaters.  In the past, these hand-made items have been shipped to Afghanistan, Burundi, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Lesotho, Bronx, NY, Pacific Northwest, and Swaziland.  There are children all over the world in need of these items  and you can help meet their needs.

We also have made Prayer Shawls and they have been distributed through Helping Hands to our shut-ins as well as shut-ins of friends of various church members. If you know of someone who could use a Prayer Shawl, please let us  know.  The joy of seeing the expression on the faces of those who have received them has been very rewarding.

Northview’s UMW also has Happy Home Flavoring for sale.  It is always sold at the quarterly Bake Sale, but it may be purchased at any time.  We have vanilla, clear vanilla, lemon, butter, clear butter, walnut, coconut, butter and nut, rum, and almond.  the cost is $w.50 per bottle.  Happy Home Flavoring is made in Bedford, VA and has been a baking staple for many years.

Your pledge to mission thru the UMW helps missions throughout the world and is sent through the Global Missions of the United Methodist Church. Your mission dollars count. Please consider becoming a part of Northview United Methodist Women.
