We have received a letter from World Vision thanking us for all the sweaters, hats and baby blankets we have knitted and crochet for them. Thanks to all who have participated. We plan tocontinue this ministry. We have yarn and patterns available for those who would like to participate in this project. The letter said “World Vision Knits for Kids sends sweaters, blankets and hats to children across the globe throughout the year, including areas of the United States, . . These handmade gifts are meeting critical needs of the world’s poorest children, often intervening during life-threatening situations. Please know that your loving gifts are making a difference! ….. Last year World Vision distributed warm items donated by Knit for Kids volunteers to 50,400 children. This year, we hope to increase that number to 60,000. Thank you for joining this effort and please keep stitching!”
We also have sent hats to Henry Fork Community Center and to the West End Center. All have been appreciated and help to keep a child warm. We also have made 14 Prayer Shawls and they have been distributed through Helping Hands to our shut-ins as well as shut-ins of friends of various church members. If you know of someone who could use a Prayer Shawl, please let us know. The joy of seeing the expression on the faces of those who have received them has been very rewarding.
Your pledge to mission thru the UMW helps missions throughout the world and is sent through the Global Missions of the United Methodist Church. Your mission dollars count. Please consider becoming a part of Northview United Methodist Women.
The Roanoke District UMW will be collecting gently used or new bras for the “Free the Girls” organization. The bras given to the project are sent to Mozambique, El Salvador and Uganda to help free victims of human trafficking. The victims sell the bras which gives them an income and enables them to take care of themselves and their children. Bras collected will be taken to the District Spiritual Life Retreat on April 18th. A collection basket or box will be in the narthex to place your donation.
